Charts and Drawings

You can display a drawing or image behind a chart template. This allows event data to be visualised directly on a drawing, photograph or schematic of the asset.

Chart templates can also display:

  • Event shapes, such as points, lines and polygons

  • Multimedia items, such as photographs

Because configuring these features involves multiple areas of NEXUS IC, the complete process is described in this section.

Configuring an Event Type for Event Shapes

  1. Create a database backup.

  2. Go to Configuration ‣ Events ‣ Event Types.

  3. Create a sub-event, or identify an existing sub-event, containing two numeric fields named X and Y. For more information, see Configure Event Types.

  4. Select the event type that you want to show as a polygon, series of lines or point on the chart template.

  5. In the lower section of the screen, ensure that the event type contains a field of type Table Link.

  6. Edit the Table Link field.

  7. On the Field Definition tab, set Sub AIG/Event to the sub-event identified in the step above.

  8. On the Field Layout tab, select the required Editor Type:

    • Graphical Markup (Point) to display the event as a point

    • Graphical Markup (Line) to display a series of connected line segments, for example, an open curve suitable for representing cracks or scratches

    • Graphical Markup (Region) to display a polygon or closed shape

Configuring a Chart Template to Support Drawings and Event Shapes

  1. Go to Configuration ‣ General ‣ Chart Templates.

  2. Edit the chart template on which the event data will be displayed.

  3. On the Chart Template tab, ensure that Show Drawings is selected.

  4. On the Series tab, ensure that the chart template contains a series for the event type to be displayed.

  5. Edit the required series.

  6. Ensure that Series Type matches the selected graphical markup editor type, for example:

    • Points for Graphical Markup (Point)

    • Polyline for Graphical Markup (Line)

    • Polygon for Graphical Markup (Region)

  7. Open the Axis tab.

  8. Ensure that both an X Axis and a Y Axis are configured.

  9. Edit each axis and configure Parameters (Inputs) as follows:

    • X Axis: X field from the selected sub-event

    • Y Axis: Y field from the selected sub-event

For more information about chart templates and series configuration, see Configure Chart Templates.

Configuring a Drawing for Display Behind a Chart Template

  1. Go to the Drawings tab on the ASSETS screen (see Drawings).

  2. Choose Layers ‣ Edit Layers.

  3. Add a rectangle layer.

  4. Change the layer type to Coordinates.

  5. Assign an asset to the layer.

  6. Configure the coordinate boundaries by setting the left, right, top and bottom values.

To display the drawing:

  1. On the INSPECTION screen, open the Charts pane (see Charts).

  2. Select the required chart template.

  3. Open the Drawings menu and select the drawing.

Note

At least one event must contain shape data for the drawing to be displayed. The chart template zooms to the event data rather than to the coordinates layer.

If all event shapes fall outside the coordinates defined for the drawing layer, the drawing may not be visible.

Once configured, the drawing is also displayed in the event shape editor.

Displaying Photos on Chart Templates

You can display multimedia items, such as photographs, on an event’s shape layer.

  1. Open the shape layer editor (see Event Details).

  2. Click Multimedia and select a photo.

  3. Position and resize the image as required.

Note

  • Mouse wheel zoom may not work in the event shape editor because of a Windows focus issue. Use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons instead.

  • Chart templates may not automatically refresh after an event shape is modified. If this occurs, select a different asset and then reselect the current
